How a freight rail innovation project became a new way to define products.
While supporting BNSF Railway and J.B. Hunt's Quantum initiative inside the BNSF Fort Worth Innovation Center, I helped the Experience Design team move beyond screen execution into consulting-led product discovery. The work combined service blueprinting, systems blueprinting, and systems thinking to help stakeholders see how customer experience, operations, systems, data, and ownership connected across the full shipment lifecycle.
Mapped customer, employee, and operational workflows across the Quantum shipment lifecycle — connecting touchpoints to backstage systems and ownership.
Documented applications, data flows, integrations, reports, and system dependencies supporting the experience — surfacing hidden complexity.
Helped teams understand how changes in one part of the ecosystem affected customer outcomes, operations, and product strategy across the organization.
Most teams map
the journey. We map
the ecosystem.
The Holistic Enterprise Blueprint™ connects customer experience, people and operations, technology, data and performance, AI opportunities, ownership, and business outcomes into one shared view—so leadership can decide what to build, what it will take, and what to fund before major investment.
What it enables- Shared understanding across business, IT, operations, and product
- Better prioritization before the next tool or redesign
- Reduced duplicate initiatives and overlapping work
- Faster MVP definition with clearer system dependencies
- Clearer AI and automation opportunities in context
- Stronger executive alignment on what to fix first
Enterprise teams often solve symptoms because they cannot see the full system.
Customer friction rarely lives in one screen. It comes from broken handoffs, disconnected systems, unclear ownership, missing data, duplicated initiatives, and slow product discovery — problems that appear isolated but are actually interconnected.
- Fragmented customer journeys with no clear owner
- Disconnected systems mapped separately from the experience
- AI initiatives launched without clear business context
- Overlapping work between product, IT, and operations
- Reporting gaps that hide the real cost of friction
- Slow product discovery that delays roadmap decisions
What you walk
away with.
Every Media Visionary engagement is designed to move organizations from fragmented understanding to clear, actionable direction — with specific artifacts your team can use immediately.
What is actually happening today across the customer journey, operations, systems, data and ownership — evidenced, not assumed.
Map the customer journey, people and operations, technology, data and performance, AI opportunities, ownership and business outcomes into one shared view.
Identify where AI and automation can improve speed, quality, and customer experience — matched to your organization's actual readiness.
What the experience, product or operating model should become — defined concretely enough for development teams to estimate against.
Sequence improvements by business impact, feasibility, effort, and organizational readiness — so the right things get built in the right order.
Give leadership a clear view of what to fix first, why it matters, and how to move forward — designed for executive presentation and decision-making.
How the work
actually goes.
Most consultants lead with tools. Media Visionary leads with the experience, the process, and the system — then identifies where AI actually belongs.
Four moves that turn an ambiguous initiative into something leadership can decide about.
A platform gets chosen, a budget gets approved, and the actual problem, its dependencies and its constraints are still unexamined. The first job is establishing what is genuinely true — through executive and stakeholder interviews, customer and frontline research, operational and systems discovery.
Customer, operations, business process, product, systems, data, AI, ownership and strategy get mapped into one shared view — so leadership can see how a decision in any one of them moves the rest, and which constraints will quietly defeat a recommendation that ignores them.
Business, product, engineering, design, operations, data, sales, marketing and leadership each optimize separately unless something connects them. Getting those functions to a shared understanding of the problem is usually harder, and more valuable, than any single artifact produced along the way.
Evidence becomes choices: product direction, MVP definition, transformation priorities, AI and workflow opportunities, prototypes, a roadmap, and clear ownership of what happens next. The output is a direction leadership can fund, not another research report.

Founder-led.
Enterprise-proven.
Media Visionary is a founder-led enterprise consulting practice specializing in customer experience strategy, AI opportunity identification, service blueprinting, and digital transformation — built from real work inside complex organizations.
Before founding Media Visionary, JT Gordon served as an AI product strategist within KPMG's innovation ecosystem, where he helped take Cranium.AI's governance platform from concept through MVP — ultimately securing $30M in funding and enterprise adoption. Prior to KPMG, he led experience design work for AT&T, PepsiCo, Neiman Marcus, NASA, TruGreen, and a range of enterprise and growth organizations.
At BNSF Railway and J.B. Hunt's Quantum initiative, JT introduced a consulting-led discovery approach that combined service blueprinting, systems blueprinting, and systems thinking — helping stakeholders see how customer experience, operations, systems, data, and ownership connected across the full shipment lifecycle.
"The most valuable UX work often happens before a screen is designed. When the experience, the process, and the system are mapped together, teams make better decisions — and avoid building the wrong thing."JT Gordon — Founder, Media Visionary
Every Media Visionary engagement is personally directed by JT Gordon. No handoffs to junior staff. No generic playbooks. Each engagement is built around your organization's specific complexity, stakeholder dynamics, and strategic goals.
